One Piece: The Movie
How we rank them
Three factors, weighted in this order: canon weight (entries Oda wrote or supervised sit above non-canon), rewatch value (action, character work, anything that survives a second viewing), and standalone watchability (does it work without the surrounding manga arc). The Hosoda outlier breaks the canon-weight rule on artistic grounds.
| # | Title | Year | Our take |
|---|---|---|---|
One Piece Film: Strong World | 2009 | First Oda script; peak crew dynamic and the only film villain who feels like he belongs in the manga’s power scale
One Piece Film: Red | 2022 | Biggest box office in the franchise; Shanks lore is hard to ignore even if the film leans concert
One Piece: Stampede | 2019 | Anniversary fan-service done with real choreography rather than just cameos
One Piece Film: Z | 2012 | Action-movie pacing; ex-admiral villain with a real history
One Piece Film: Gold | 2016 | Casino heist with the best contained setting of the films; slightly overlong
Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island | 2005 | Hosoda outlier; tonally unlike any other One Piece work, in the best way
Episode of Alabasta | 2007 | The cleanest way to revisit the Alabasta arc on a rewatch
Dead End Adventure | 2003 | Strongest of the pre-Strong-World entries; first to feel like a real film
3D2Y | 2014 | The Marineford callbacks land; Byrnndi World as a villain doesn’t
Episode of Sabo | 2015 | The Sabo lore extension justifies the runtime even if the format is recap
Episode of East Blue | 2017 | Cleanest entry point for newcomers; loses every character beat in the compression
Episode of Chopper Plus | 2008 | Decent Drum arc remix with Robin retconned in
Giant Mechanical Soldier of Karakuri Castle | 2006 | Watchable mecha-island plot; doesn’t use the post-Enies Lobby crew
Episode of Skypiea | 2018 | Skypiea is one of the arcs that loses the most in condensation
The Cursed Holy Sword | 2004 | Worth it for Zoro fans; villain motivation thin
One Piece: Heart of Gold | 2016 | A pre-Gold companion piece; the weakest of the 2016 trio
One Piece: Adventure of Nebulandia | 2015 | Foxy filler stretched to feature length; for completionists only
Clockwork Island Adventure | 2001 | Light Trump-siblings romp from the East Blue era
Chopper’s Kingdom on the Island of Strange Animals | 2002 | Forgettable filler with no consequences
One Piece: The Movie | 2000 | First entry; mostly historical value
