One Piece Filler Episodes Guide — What to Skip, What to Watch (2026)

Every One Piece filler episode by arc — exact episode numbers, what to skip, and the one filler arc actually worth watching (G-8).

One Piece has run for 1,100+ episodes, and about 94 of those are anime-only filler Oda never wrote. That’s roughly 9% of the show you can cut without losing a single line of canon — except for one arc that’s the consensus best filler in the entire run, and a handful of short arcs that exist only to set up the films.

This page is the short answer. Episode numbers, verdict for each, no padding.

The 30-second answer

  • Skip every filler arc except G-8 (Eps 196–206) — Marine fortress undercover heist, treated like canon by most fans.
  • Watch the film tie-in fillers only if you’re watching the matching film — Z’s Ambition for Film Z, Silver Mine for Film Gold, Cidre Guild for Stampede, Uta’s Past for Film Red.
  • Reading the manga skips all filler entirely — zero anime-original episodes between you and the canon. See the manga reading guide for where to start.

Every filler arc, every episode

The table everyone is here for. Sorted by air order; each row is contiguous filler the show clearly labels as a side adventure.

Ruluka Island139–143SkypieaSkip. Cursed-island filler.
G-8196–206SkypieaWATCH. Marine fortress undercover heist. Best filler arc in the show — most fans treat it as canon-adjacent.

Ice Hunter326–336Thriller BarkSkip. Marine bounty-hunt filler between Enies Lobby and Thriller Bark.
Spa Island382–384SabaodySkip. Three-episode post-saga side trip.
Little East Blue426–429SabaodySkip — but it’s the canonical slot for Strong World.
Z’s Ambition575–578Punk HazardSkip — unless watching Film Z next. Required setup for the film.
Caesar Retrieval626–628DressrosaSkip. Short post-arc filler.
Silver Mine747–750DressrosaSkip — unless watching Film Gold next. Light setup; can be cut even if you watch the film.

Cidre Guild878–881Whole CakeSkip — unless watching Stampede next. Required setup.
Uta’s Past1029–1030WanoSkip — unless watching Film Red next. Required setup.

Total filler if you skip everything in this table: ~94 episodes. Add G-8 back and you save ~83.

The one filler arc worth watching: G-8

If you skip everything else in the show, watch this. Episodes 196–206 drop right after Skypiea: the Going Merry crash-lands inside a Marine sky fortress called G-8 and the crew has to escape from inside while disguised as Marines.

It’s filler — Oda never wrote it — but it’s the closest the show ever got to writing One Piece as One Piece. Comedy beats, ensemble work, a surprisingly competent Marine antagonist (Jonathan), and a heist plot that respects the characters. Most ranking lists of “best filler in anime” put it in the top three across all shows.

You can drop it after Skypiea ends and pick up the Davy Back Fight canon arc with no loss.

Film tie-in fillers: when to actually watch them

Four films have anime-original setup arcs that air shortly before them. Each one is only worth watching if you’re committed to the film immediately after — otherwise they’re skippable like everything else.

  • Film Z → watch Z’s Ambition (575–578) if going into Film Z right after. The cold open of the film refers to events from this arc.
  • Film GoldSilver Mine (747–750) is light setup. Optional even if watching Gold; you can follow the film without it.
  • StampedeCidre Guild (878–881) is the lead-in. Watch this one before the film.
  • Film RedUta’s Past (Eps 1029–1030) establishes Uta and her tie to Shanks. Watch before the film.

For full canon-vs-film placement see the One Piece watch order — every film slot is mapped to the episode that precedes it.

The clean alternative: read the manga

The manga has zero filler. Every chapter Oda wrote, no anime padding, no recap episodes, no detours. If you’ve already bounced off the anime once because of pacing, this is the move.

For the full edition breakdown — omnibus vs box sets vs standalones vs the Shonen Jump app — see the manga reading guide and the box set buyer’s guide.

The other shortcut: One Pace

If you want the anime visuals but not the pacing, One Pace is a fan-recut that uses the original anime footage cut to match manga pacing — same scenes, no filler, no anime-only padding. Trade-off: some atmosphere is lost (Skypiea fans rate the original cuts higher for tone), and Wano episodes are still in progress.

Use One Pace as a recovery option if you bounced off the anime’s pacing, not as a default first watch.

FAQ

How many filler episodes are in One Piece total? About 94 contiguous filler episodes across 16 arcs, plus a handful of single-episode flashbacks and recaps. ~9% of the total run.

Is G-8 really worth watching? Yes. It’s the consensus best filler arc in the show, often ranked in the top three filler arcs in all anime. It costs you 11 episodes and gives you a self-contained heist that respects the characters.

Do I have to watch Z’s Ambition / Silver Mine / Cidre Guild? Only if you’re going to watch the corresponding film right after. The film cold opens reference those arcs.

What about the Marineford flashback episodes? Episodes 457–460 are Luffy and Ace’s childhood — these are canon, not filler. Oda wrote them. Watch them.

Is the live-action filler-free? Yes, the Netflix live-action covers East Blue with no filler. See the watch order for how it fits with the anime.
